In the Press

Following are some stories that cover my work over the last few years. I have been interviewed by The Boston Globe, Wall St. Journal, The Connection (WBUR), Channel 5 news, Channel 25 news, WBZ news radio, the Phantom Gourmet, and others.

Boston Globe "In Not-so-obvious Places, Web Skills Are Still Prized" and "Schools Have Designs on Former Dot-Com Creative Talent" - I have been interviewed several times by The Globe, most recently in the "Careers2002" special section (Sunday, October 20, 2002 -- available online through the Globe's paid archives), regarding Web professionals who have found successful niches, in my case helping non-profits with online strategy and marketing. A second story on the same page also discussed former dot-com folks who also teach, including my work at the Persons School (formerly The Graduate Center) at Marlboro College. Judging by the number of calls and emails this story garnered from friends and generally interested folks, the Careers section was a big hit -- and having your picture there doesn't hurt either.

The Industry Standard "What to Name the Baby" - I knew as soon as the members of the focus group started cracking up that I’d get a good feature story out of our company naming goof up. This one was several pages long, with great illustrations entirely about our company.

San Jose Mercury News – coverage of BroadVision’s personalized site The Angle, for which I was the "fun seeker" editor/columnist.

Salon "Showdown at the HTML Corral" – Greg Lindsay takes a cynical look at the Cool Site in a Day competition, which I ran for several years.

Web Review "Cool Site in a Day Part Deux" – My take on the second competition.

USA Today "Web Review’s Demise feels like the loss of an old friend" – Sam Meddis wrote some very kind words about Web Review and my column, when we shut down the publication for a few months before being saved by Miller Freeman.

Boston Globe "High Marks for Buzz" – Scott Kirsner gets the first story on Open Ratings, and opts to write about our "clever freebies" (when in doubt, distribute chocolate).

Newsbytes – When the Louise Woodward story broke, Town Online was the place to go for coverage and ultimately an entire community practically lived at the site waiting for a verdict. Our coverage gained Community Newspaper Company’s Interactive group respect in newsrooms around the world – including our own.

Presstime – This is coverage of a panel presentation on Personalization at the Newspaper Association of America New Media Federation Conference. Interestingly, I found that my ranting at newspaper conferences seemed to generate a lot of job offers.

Wicked Good Guide To Boston English – I’ve contributed a few items and corrections to this humorous, but basically accurate, site about my hometown. "Townie" was one of my contributions.
