Useful Sites

I have gathered a few URLs for services that I have personally used and recommend. Each link will open a new window.

Marketing Tools

www.perseus.com - Inexpensive survey tool with email, Web and print features.

www.submit-it.com - Legitimate search engine registration tool that keeps things organized.

www.profnet.com - ProfNet allows journalists and experts to find one another for their stories. I've been happy with my results coming from both PR and editorial sides.

www.searchenginewatch.com - Who has time to keep up with the latest in search engine intrigues? These guys always provide a quick update on what the directory/search sites are doing as well as legitimate tips for getting listed.

www.snagit.com - A handy and super-cheap tool for grabbing screen shots and saving them in a host of image formats. Snag It has saved the day for many a presentation.

What people can find out about you online may surprise you.

list.realestate.yahoo.com/re/homevalues - Type in an address anywhere in the US and see how much your neighbors paid for their house.

realestate.boston.com/recentsales - Boston area recent sales, with more recent data than Yahoo.

www.anonymizer.com - Search your competitor's Web site without them identifying you.

snoop.anonymizer.com - Find out what information a Web site can see about you when you visit.

Worthwhile Reading

I have assigned these books and sites to my marketing students at Marlboro College and Emerson College.

The Tipping Point - Essential reading for guerilla marketers.

www.cluetrain.com - Bombastic, but thought-provoking discussion.

www.useit.com - Especially the section on Web Writing. Jakob Nielsen's Designing Web Usability is a good book to own, especially if you plan on doing any design or usability work.

www.digitalmass.com - Boston.com's section for local digerati. Essential reading includes my former boss DC Denison's Weblog and insider Scott Kirsner's @Large Monday column.

www.forrester.com - Useful research even if you don't have a full subscription. I like to see what my old boss Charlene Li is writing about.

Organizations

www.wwwac.org - Still a must-read listserv -- at least in digest mode.

www.mimc.org - One of these years I will win an award from MIMC. For now, I'll have to rest on my laurels as a past nominee.

^^^

Not-for-Profit Sites

www.agmconnect.org - Associated Grantmakers has a Common Proposal Format on their site.

www.aecf.org - The Annie E. Casey Foundation has a ton of information about the status of children and families in the US.
